Torfæra, or Formula off road is a motor sport that originated in Iceland. With the first competition being held in 1965.
It all started with the Search and rescue team deciding to show of the prowess of their 4x4 vehicles in rough terrain - in an effort to raise funds. However, competitiveness took hold, and specialized monsters were built for the purpose of being the best - but also to have fun.
While the sport has strong roots in Iceland - it has started to spread to other Nordic countries to great acclaim.
To compete you have to be made of some stern stuff - but also be a bit reckless
